This is where we play.
When we first walked into this house, I knew exactly what we would do with this little breakfast- nook room-it would be the playroom. It is in the ideal location, just off the kitchen, dining room and living room. I can shut both doors that lead to the hallway and the girls are confined to a completely baby-safe triangle from the kitchen to the living room with all their toys within reach:) Tonight they played in their playroom, together, just the two of them for an hour straight. No crying for mommy and daddy, no getting into trouble...just fun, imaginative, little girl time. We peek in on them from time to time and it's so fun to see what they are into at that moment...tonight Marissa was playing with her new favorite toy from Zach and Heather and Allie was sitting on the pink stool watching her. So sweet. We all love this room. I have been putting this room together piece by piece and it proves to get more difficult as we get more toys...trying to find a place to put everything, but I suppose this is a good problem to have:) With all that said, I would like to take you on a tour of our playroom.
This is the view from the doorway. The chandelier was originally in the dining but it was perfect for this room, so Pops and Nana (Russell's parents) got us a new one for the dining room and Pops put this one in the playroom. The curtains I found at blissfullydomestic
and loved the look of them! I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased some girly, pink ribbon and used some plain, old sheer drapes and got out my trusty hot glue gun and created some very inexpensive and fun window treatments. I got the rug at Lowes for $20. Not my ideal choice, but good enough for $20.
This was my original inspiration for the curtains.
The letters are hodge podged with scrapbook paper (all from hobby lobby) and the pictures of the girls I got for FREE (well, kinda...I had to pay $15 for shipping, but they are at least $50 usually.) You can get one too, just go to canvaspeople.com. The kitchen was a gift from Pops and Nana, the girls love it and well, every little girls playroom needs a kitchen:)
This is the other side of the room-the table is from Papa and NeeNee-they got it at Target and it's great because it has the 2 storage bins that slide out from the bottom. Very handy!
This is the wall to the left when you walk in the room. My mom helped me build the little bookshelves. I found the tutorial at Frugal Home Ideas and, although it wasn't too difficult, I don't think I could have done it without my mom's help. Thanks:) The boxes in the shelves are simply diaper boxes covered with the same paper I used to cover the letters. (and yes, that is the lawnmower on top of the shelves where the girls can't reach it...that has got to be the most annoying toy, so that's where it stays.) Oh, and I know the bookshelves are not even, but that's just not on my priority list to fix right now....
Well, I hope you have enjoyed touring our playroom. It is such a wonderful room, perfect for us and so much fun. It will surely have to change if we have a boy...but that day isn't here yet...so, for now, it's girly and pink and FAB.U.LOUS:) heehee.

A day in the life
There's not much going on around here this week. Both the girls are getting over a cold so we haven't gone anywhere or done anything too exciting in hopes that they will get over the cold and stay over it! Soooooo, with that said, we were hanging out this morning and Marissa grabbed her book and started reading! I quickly got the camera out and started filming, she does this a lot so I was excited to finally get it on video:) Enjoy!

Time with Daddy at the "Cuppa Club"
Marissa's new favorite place is the cuppa club. And just in case you don't speak "Marissa", let me translate...that would be the Country Club. Last week, she went to lunch with Daddy while I took Allie to the Doctor and she had a BLAST! She got to take a quick ride on the golf cart and helped Daddy do a little work. Russell sent me this picture while we were at the doctor's office. Marissa is being a big helper by putting a stake in the ground.
Then it was off to the 19th hole to pick up some lunch. Russell said she talked to everyone and had so much fun. As they were leaving, she turned around, waved and said "BYE EVERYBODY!!" Little Miss Personality.
She talked about her time with Daddy for the next few days and when it was time to eat she would say, "I wanna go to the CUPPA CLUB!" :) Here is a cute little video I took the next day asking her questions about her day (as you can see, her attention span is very short...).

My version of Ballard Designs
I recently received the new Ballard Designs catalog in the mail and I fell in LOVE with these wall plaques.
That was until I saw the price...$199 plus shipping. No thank you. However, the more I looked at them, the more I thought I might be able to make something like that. And since Russell has reduced my home decor budget to, uhhh, let's see what was it...oh yeah, zero dollars...I had to get creative.
So, here's what I did.
I put Allie down for a nap and got Marissa set up with her own paints. I then grabbed a piece of scrap wood I found in our bathroom closet. I think it was used as a shelf, but we didn't need it in there, so I set it aside for a crafty day.

So, here's what I did.
I put Allie down for a nap and got Marissa set up with her own paints. I then grabbed a piece of scrap wood I found in our bathroom closet. I think it was used as a shelf, but we didn't need it in there, so I set it aside for a crafty day.
Then I painted on one coat of Behr "Mermaid Net" that was a leftover sample from something...I guess I didn't like it for the wall, but it was perfect for this project.
Ok, this is where the project got a little more difficult. I don't have one of those fancy cricut's that make stencils for you, so I found a picture on the internet, blew it up to the size I wanted and very carefully cut out the inside with an exacto knife to make a stencil. After what seemed like foooorrreeeevveeeerrr (anybody remember The Sandlot?) I had my stencil. I used Americana
Acrylic Paint in Burnt Umber (leftover from another project) and stenciled away.
I got out my number stencils and added the numbers (916 for Marissa's birthday and 127 because I liked how it looked...) and then painted the dots and arrows.
Next step was sanding, sanding and more sanding to give it that perfectly aged look. I then applied Ralph Lauren smoke glaze all over(which is what the Shanty2chic sisters recommend and something else I purchased previously). And, there she is! I am really pleased with how it turned out.
I hung it in the kitchen for now...but I am thinking I need to do at least one more. It doesn't really make sense by iteself. I just need to find another piece of scrap wood. Ok, so remember the Ballard Designs version cost $199...my grand total was $0!!!!! Take that, Ballard Designs:)

All about Allie.
I wanted to give everyone an update on Miss Allie so y'all can know what she is up to these days and also so I will remember what she is up to these days:) (I swear, there are days when I feel like my mind is just GONE! I was in wal-mart checking out the other day and realized I left my wallet in the car, so I ran out to get it, then, after I checked out, got all the way to the door and realized I left my keys in the check-out line.....so, as you can see, I better write this stuff down NOW!) Anyway...Allie is amazing. Truly, she is. She is so different than Marissa but has the same sweet personality that Marissa does. She is very,very busy and really doesn't stop from the time she wakes up til naptime then it starts all over until bedtime. She is finally sleeping through the night. I honestly didn't know if that day would ever come. She was so much harder as a baby than Marissa, but as I think back on it now, I am thankful that God gave me that sweet time with Allie in the middle of the night because I don't get as much one-on-one time with her as I would like. It's funny how at the time, something can seem like such a burden but when you look back on it...it really was precious time I had with my baby. And it's so hard to believe she isn't a baby anymore, she is officially a toddler! She toddles around everywhere, especially everywhere her big sister goes. They are becoming the best of friends and Russell and I love to watch them play together. A quick story (some of you have heard this but again, so I don't forget it) I was in the bank the other day and I had both girls with me. I was trying to get everything back in my purse, so I put Allie down so she could walk around with Marissa. Well, when I looked up to see where they were, I saw them holding hands walking towards the door. Oh.my.goodness. I literally almost starting crying right there in the bank. It was one of the most precious things I have ever seen. When I got up to them, Marissa looked at me and said "Mommy, I'm helping Allie!" Oh, so sweet.
So, here are some more fun things about Allie:
*She is HILARIOUS! As I'm sure you saw from the videos on the previous post, she keeps us laughing all day!
*She loves to push the buttons on the TV. Usually when Marissa is trying to watch a movie, which, in turn, drive Marissa crazy!
*She is still drinking from a bottle and has very little interest in switching to a sippy cup. However, we at least got her off formula and on to whole milk. (No more $25 a week for formula!)
*If you ask her for a kiss, she will walk up to you with her mouth wide open and give you a big, wet kiss!
*She loves, loves, loves the wiggles! She and Marissa both would probably watch it all day long if we would let them.
*She isn't afraid of anyone and loves to be in the middle of all the action. We had some new friends over for dinner the other night, and she walked right up to the guy and held her arms up so he would hold her.
*She will eat anything we put in front of her. And, a lot of it! It amazes us how much she will eat!
*She has the prettiest, thickest curly hair. I have a feeling she will be using my curly hair products in the very near future. Poor girl. She will hate it and everyone else will love it.
*She doesn't really have a favorite toy right now, she just likes to push things, her car, stool, stroller, whatever she can find to push, she will. She also loves my phone and if she has not already, she might call you at 7:30 in the morning like she did my brother. (Sorry Zach.)
Well, that's all I can think of for now. When Russell gets home, I will see if he has anything he would like to add to the list!

Christmas in North Carolina
These are all pretty self-explanatory, so I'll let the pictures do most of the talking (I'm sure I'll have a comment here or there....)
